People Around Us
Paragraph 1 — Elif: Elif is a very kind and thoughtful person. She always helps her friends when they are in trouble. She is also quite generous — she often shares her notes and study materials with her classmates. People around her describe her as sincere and understanding because she listens carefully and never judges anyone.

Paragraph 2 — Mert: Mert is known for being confident and outgoing. He is always the first person to introduce himself to new students and make them feel welcome. His charismatic personality makes him popular at school. He is also very dependable; when he makes a promise, he always keeps it. Everyone trusts Mert because he is honest and loyal.

Paragraph 3 — Selin: Selin is a calm and patient girl. She enjoys reading books in her free time. Last summer, her family went on a holiday to Antalya and they visited several ancient ruins and museums. The hotel they stayed at had a beautiful swimming pool and a great restaurant. They also tried paragliding, which was very exciting.

Paragraph 4 — Burak: Burak is an ambitious and determined young man. He studies hard to achieve his goals and never gives up easily. His friends say he is reliable and supportive because he always encourages them before exams. Although he can be a bit stubborn sometimes, he is also very respectful and tolerant of different opinions.

Read the argumentative text below and answer the questions.
What Makes a True Friend?
Friendship is one of the most valuable things in life, but what truly makes someone a good friend? In my opinion, the most important quality of a true friend is being loyal and honest. A loyal friend stands by you in difficult times and never talks behind your back. Similarly, an honest friend always tells you the truth, even when it is hard to hear.

Another essential quality is being supportive and understanding. A trustworthy friend listens to your problems without judging you and offers helpful advice. They are tolerant of your mistakes and patient when you need time to grow. Being reliable is also crucial — a dependable friend keeps their promises and is always there when you need them.

Some people argue that having fun together is the most important aspect of friendship. While humorous moments and easygoing conversations certainly strengthen a bond, they are not enough on their own. A friendship built only on fun times will not survive serious challenges.

In conclusion, a true friend must be sincere, faithful, and wise. Surface-level qualities like being funny or outgoing may attract people, but it is deeper qualities such as trust, loyalty, and genuine understanding that keep friendships strong for a lifetime.

Read the model essay below, then write your own opinion essay (8–10 sentences) about the most important qualities of a good friend.
Model Essay
In my opinion, the most important quality of a good friend is being honest and reliable. A true buddy is someone who always tells the truth and keeps their promises. Moreover, a good friend should be supportive and kind, especially during hard times. They should be tolerant of our differences and patient enough to understand our feelings. Being a faithful soulmate also means standing by your friend no matter what. In addition, a wise and sensible friend can give you helpful advice when you need it. To sum up, qualities like trust, loyalty, and understanding are what make a friendship truly meaningful.
Your task: Write your own opinion essay about the most important qualities of a good friend. Include the following:
• State your opinion clearly in the introduction
• Give at least two reasons to support your opinion
• Use linking words (moreover, in addition, furthermore, however, on the other hand, to sum up)
• Write a conclusion that restates your main idea
