What Music Means to Us
Deniz: “When I feel stressed after school, I always put on some classical music. The soft melody of the violin and the gentle harmony of the strings help me relax. I find pop songs too energetic for the evening, but I enjoy upbeat hip-hop tracks when I go jogging in the morning.”

Aylin: “I am a huge fan of jazz. The rhythm and the soothing sound of the keyboard totally inspire me. I recently started learning the piano because I want to compose my own tunes. I think blues is also awesome because the lyrics are very emotional.”

Kaan: “Rock is my life! I play the drums in a band and we perform at small venues every weekend. Our audience is not huge, but the energy is incredible. I also listen to rap because the beats are catchy and the songwriters are really creative.”

School Music Survey — 120 Participants
A survey was conducted among 120 high school students to find out their music habits. The results are as follows:

Favourite genre: Pop (45 participants), Rock (30), Hip-hop (25), Classical (12), Jazz (8)
Listening time per day: Less than 1 hour (18%), 1–2 hours (42%), 2–3 hours (28%), More than 3 hours (12%)
Preferred mood for music: Cheerful/upbeat songs (majority — 65%), Relaxing/soothing songs (22%), Emotional/dull songs (13%)
Playing an instrument: Yes (35 participants), No (85 participants)
Most popular instrument among players: Keyboard (12), Guitar (10), Percussion/drums (8), Strings/violin (5)

Students will be able to write a survey report on friends’/teachers’ music preferences.
Imagine you surveyed five of your classmates about their music preferences. Write a short survey report (8–10 sentences) presenting your findings.
Model Report
I conducted a survey among five of my classmates to learn about their music preferences. The majority of them said they enjoy pop music because it is upbeat and cheerful. Two participants prefer rock as they find the rhythm energetic. Only one person listens to classical music, especially for relaxation. Most of my classmates listen to music for about one to two hours a day, usually through their phones. Three of them said lyrics are the most important part of a song, while two focus more on the melody and beat. In conclusion, pop music is the most popular genre in our group, and most students use music to improve their mood.
Your task: Write your own survey report. Include the following:
• The number of people you surveyed
• Their favourite genres and reasons
• How long they listen to music daily
• What they focus on (lyrics, melody, beat, etc.)
• A conclusion summarising your findings
